Kevin Kennedy

Kevin Kennedy

President and Chief Executive Officer

Kevin Kennedy joined the Company as Chief Executive Officer in September 2003 and has been a member of the Company's Board since November 2001. Previously, he served as Chief Operating Officer of Openwave Systems, Inc. from August 2001 to September 2003. Prior to joining Openwave Systems, Kennedy spent seven years at Cisco Systems, Inc., most recently as Senior Vice President of the Service Provider Line of Business and Software Technologies Division, and seventeen years at Bell Laboratories as well.
 
In 1987, Kennedy was a congressional fellow to the US House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Polycom, Inc. and KLA-Tencor Corporation. Kennedy is a member of the Board of Regents of Loyola Marymount University.

Kennedy holds engineering degrees, including: a B.S. from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania and an M.S. and Ph.D. from Rutgers University. He also completed the Executive Business Program at the University of Michigan in 1992. Kennedy was an adjunct professor at Rutgers from 1982-1984 and has published more than 30 papers on computational methods, data networking, and issues of technology management. In 2006, Kennedy was honored by the School of Engineering at Rutgers as their alumnus of the year and awarded an Alumni Medal of Excellence. He is a co-author of Going the Distance, a book published by Prentice Hall.

Roy Bie

Roy Bie

Advanced Optical Technologies Business Segment

Roy Bie is responsible for JDSU's Advanced Optical Technologies Group, comprised of the Flex and Custom Optics businesses . Bie oversees the group's operations, process/manufacturing engineering, sales and marketing, and science and technology activities.  From 1996 to 2000, Bie was Vice President of Operations for Flex Products and oversaw the successful operational expansion activities in Santa Rosa and Beijing, China.  From 1993 through 1996, he served as Director of Operations. Prior to joining JDSU, Bie held operational and management leadership positions with Xicor (now part of Intersil), Material Progress (now part of Komag), Mag-Media (bought by Polaroid), and began his career at National Semiconductor.

Christopher S. Dewees

Chief Legal Officer

Chris Dewees is responsible for the Company's strategic transaction activities, including mergers and acquisitions, dispositions and strategic partnerships.  Dewees also serves as the Company's Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary, a role he has held since October 2002. He joined JDSU as Corporate Counsel in October 1999, becoming Associate General Counsel in March 2001 and General Counsel in October 2002.

Prior to joining the Company, Dewees practiced law at Morrison & Foerster LLP, working in the firm's San Francisco, New York and Palo Alto offices. While at Morrison & Foerster, he represented Uniphase Corporation and later JDSU, along with other Silicon Valley public and private companies, in mergers and acquisition, public securities offerings and venture financings, among other things.

Dewees earned his A.B. degree from Dartmouth College in 1986, and his J.D. degree from Northwestern University in 1989.

Alan "Al" Etterman

Alan "Al" Etterman

Chief Administrative Officer

Alan Etterman is responsible for JDSU's corporate services organizations, Human Resources, Workplace Solutions, Customer Service and the Corporate Program Office. As part of JDSU's Executive Management team he has been integral in JDSU's transformation to a portfolio corporate structure and the creation of the JDSU Business System Platform.
 
Before joining JDSU he was Senior Vice President of Corporate Infrastructure and CIO at Openwave Systems where he was part of the Executive Management team that was focused on the company's transformation to profitability.  In 2001, he co-founded and was Chief Operating Officer for TheoryR Capital Partners a technology based hedge fund. Prior to that, Etterman was Cisco's Senior Director of Global communications and technology services where he implemented the world's first large scale (10,000+ lines) voice over Internet protocol communications system. Etterman's experience also includes management roles at 3Com Corporation, IBM RealCom, LinCom, InteCom, and GTE Automatic Electric.

David Gudmundson

David Gudmundson

Optical Communications Business Segment

David Gudmundson is responsible for sales, operations and product development for JDSU's Optical Communications Group. He joined JDSU in 2003 as senior vice president of corporate development and marketing. Gudmundson played an integral role in a number of strategic transactions - including the acquisitions of Lightwave Electronics, Acterna and Agility Communications - helping to diversify the company's portfolio and expanding the company's opportunity in the growing and profitable markets for test and measurement equipment, tunable transponders and solid state lasers. Before joining JDSU, Gudmundson spent more than a decade at Cisco Systems where he served in numerous leadership roles, including: orchestrating the launch of Cisco's remote access product line to market share lead; overseeing Cisco's security server, DSL and edge routing business units as Vice President and General Manager; helping develop the company's well-respected acquisition and integration strategy; and managing the subscriber edge products group. Prior to Cisco, He held various hardware and software development and systems engineering positions at Argo Systems, Inc. (now part of Boeing Company Inc.) and ESL Incorporated (now part of TRW).

Gudmundson received his bachelor's degree from University of Missouri-Rolla in Electrical Engineering and an MBA from San Jose State University.

Judith Kay

Judith Kay

Corporate Marketing and Executive Operations

Judith Kay is responsible for the Company's corporate marketing activities and executive operations. She oversees strategic planning, corporate communications and public relations as well as internal communications. Before joining JDSU in 2005, Kay held increasingly responsible positions at Lucent Technologies in product management, marketing and business development, culminating in leading its Voice over IP and remote access lines of business. She has also held marketing roles at Analog Devices and Silicon Graphics and began her career in research and development at Watkins Johnson (WJ).
 
Kay holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from University of California, and an MBA from Columbia Business School. She also completed the Program for Management Development executive semester at Harvard Business School.

Alan Lowe

Alan Lowe

Commercial Laser Business Segment

Alan Lowe is responsible for the company's Commercial Laser business.  He brings over 20 years of experience in general management, operations, sales and business development with technology companies to JDSU.

Before joining JDSU in September 2007, Lowe was Senior Vice President, Customer Solutions Group at Asyst Technologies, Inc. a leader in automating semiconductor and flat panel display fabs.  From 2000 to 2003, he was president and chief executive officer of Read-Rite Corporation, a manufacturer of thin-film recording heads for disk and tape drives.  From 1989 to 2000, Lowe served in roles of increasing responsibility at Read-Rite, including President and Chief Operating Officer, and senior vice president, customer business units. Prior to joining Read-Rite, he served in various sales positions with Microcom Corporation and IBM Corporation.

He is a member of the advisory board of ETM Inc., a privately held provider of tailored power subsystems.  Lowe holds bachelor's degrees in computer science and business economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and also completed the Stanford Executive Program in 1994.

Marti MenachoMarti Menacho

Chief Information Officer

Marti Menacho is responsible for JDSU's Information Technology function.   Prior to joining JDSU she was Vice President and CIO at Brocade Communications, where she was responsible for the companywide IT function that enabled the company to expand into adjacent markets.  Before Brocade, Menacho was at TIBCO Software, where she was responsible for TIBCO's global IT presence. Prior to joining TIBCO, Menacho was the Sales and Marketing Executive Vice President for Saama Technologies.

Menacho also held Chief Information Executive positions at Nortel Networks and Clarify Corporation. At Nortel she was an integral part of integrating new company acquisitions into the business structure. Menacho has also held management positions at 3Com, SGI, ASK Computer Systems and Syntex. She was a member of Vice President Gore's eGovernment committee during the Clinton administration.

David Vellequette

David Vellequette

Chief Financial Officer

David Vellequette accepted the position of Chief Financial Officer in June of 2005. Since joining JDSU as Vice President and Operations Controller in July 2004, Vellequette has spearheaded a series of initiatives intended to reduce operational complexity throughout the corporation. Prior to joining JDSU, Vellequette was Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Service Operations at Openwave Systems. Between 1992 and 2002, Vellequette held increasingly responsible positions at Cisco Systems, first as Corporate Controller of StrataCom Corporation (acquired by Cisco in 1996) and later as Vice President of Finance supporting the multi-billion dollar service provider line of business. From 1984 to 1992, Vellequette was Controller at Altera Corporation.

After graduating from the University of California, Berkeley with a B.S. in Accounting, Vellequette started his finance career as an auditor with Ernst and Young, where he became a Certified Public Accountant.

Thomas Waechter

Thomas Waechter

Test and Measurement Business Segment

Thomas Waechter is responsible for JDSU's Communications Test and Measurement business.  Prior to joining JDSU, Waechter was the chief operating officer of Harris Stratex Networks, an independent supplier of wireless transmission systems, where he was responsible for global operations, sales, services, and customer satisfaction.  As president and chief executive officer of Stratex Networks, he was instrumental in the merging of Stratex and Harris, while growing revenues substantially and improving profitability.  Prior to that, Waechter was the president and chief executive officer of REMEC Corporation and has also served as president and chief executive officer of Spectrian Corporation.

Additionally, he held a number of executive level global operations positions during his 14 year career with Schlumberger as well as a senior executive position with Asyst Technologies.  He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from The College of William and Mary. Waechter also serves as a trustee for the College of William and Mary Foundation.
