Brian
Hardware Engineer
B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Penn State University

  • Wants to solve customer problems
  • Is passionate about designing leading-edge hardware
  • Believes that trust in the workplace  is empowering

"JDSU strives to provide prospective employees with ample details about job opportunities and is always willing to answer any questions. After hearing the experiences of friends, I can say that JDSU is more concerned than other companies with supporting all aspects of the employee experience in order to keep people happy, comfortable, and challenged.

Since joining JDSU, I've been busy doing actual hardware engineering work–no paperwork or fetching coffee. The environment is relaxed and I work with people who are extremely helpful, patient, friendly, and funny.

Because many aspects of my job are lab-oriented, including testing and designing every aspect of the hardware for our telecommunications testing equipment, I have the discretion of managing my own schedule. My managers and coworkers trust me to complete my tasks on time.

So far, my best experience has been troubleshooting a customer problem. It was exciting because I know my efforts contributed to the solution."

Catherine

Catherine
Coordinator for employee HR Direct service
B.A. in English, Loyola Marymount University

  • Looks forward to sharing ideas with free-thinking colleagues
  • Likes the challenges of a fast-paced environment
  • Enjoys theatrical work and writing poetry

"JDSU is a fast-paced environment and I am learning quickly. I was concerned going into a field unrelated to my educational background, but the people at JDSU have helped me understand how a corporation functions.

My job has been an exciting journey. HR Direct is a new program, and my role as a coordinator is constantly evolving. Though creating my path has its ups and downs, I am part of a group that is privileged to shape an important employee program and set the bar exceptionally high.

JDSU's high learning curve can be challenging, but I work with great people in a supportive environment where lots of innovative thinkers roam the hallways. It is always a treat to brainstorm with colleagues on ideas that will bring new projects to life."

Colleen

Colleen
College Recruitment Coordinator
B.S. in Psychology, Penn State University

  • Enjoys interaction with all levels of employees
  • Appreciates the opportunity for hard work and creativity
  • Likes football games as a spectator

"My experience at JDSU has been fantastic. I've felt accepted since day one, partly because there are no boundaries between employees. I interact with engineers and managers daily, and often lunch with members of the sales team. I've even met our CEO on several occasions.

At JDSU, I plan and attend college recruitment events, such as career fairs and on-campus interviews, and also advise managers on hiring college graduates. This includes preparing schedules for upcoming events and determining specific recruitment needs. I also gather information from new hires to create a "complete picture" for candidates of what their JDSU responsibilities will involve. This is especially rewarding when interacting with employees I've helped to hire.

I was attracted to JDSU because I felt that the challenging atmosphere would provide opportunities for hard work and creativity. I also wanted the chance to work with bright, inspiring people. And while I've learned a lot from my coworkers, I am continually encouraged to implement my own ideas.

On the day of my interview, the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. Everyone greeted me with a smile or said hello. My impression of JDSU's culture that first day has not changed. I look forward to each day knowing I will interact with fun, professional people who are always ready to offer a helping hand."
